Website Design: What Makes A Good-Looking Website Look Good?

Website Design: What Makes A Good-Looking Website Look Good?

website using 3 options

Your website is your digital storefront. The better it looks, the more attractive it is, and the more attractive it is, the more people it will attract.

It’s really that simple.

But what makes a good-looking website look good? And why is it so important that your website looks great?

While a lot of it comes down to your business branding style, there are some basic things that all successful websites use to ensure that they are attractive.

What You Should Know About Websites

Most successful websites follow the same basic layout.

Most often, when you load into a well-designed website you’ll notice a couple of things. First of which will be the purpose of the site in big bold letters.

This immediately lets visitors to the site know exactly what it’s there for, and what they can expect to find as they navigate through it.

Generally, beneath the heading is a brief description of what the business does, and what sets it apart from its competitors.

Usually, In the top left corner of the screen, you’ll see the logo, in contrasted, easy-to-read colors. These colors are selected carefully to represent the brand’s identity, we’ll get to color psychology a little later on.

To the direct right of the logo are the words: Home, About, Services, and Contact Us or some variation of them.

Most well-designed websites have this format because people tend to read from left to right and top to bottom in many countries around the world.

Website Navigation

Each of these tabs allows the user of the site to easily navigate it, and quickly find what they need. If they want to know the business’ history and what they stand for in-depth, they can hit the “about” button.

If they’d like to get a comprehensive rundown of the services on offer and what they will do for them, they can click on the “services” button, and if they want to get in touch they can click the “contact us” button.

The home button will return them to the first page whenever they want, preventing them from feeling trapped or frustrated as they navigate the website.

As they scroll down the home page, they will often see any free offers available at the moment, another slightly deeper explanation of why they should choose to hire the business and the benefits they can expect to receive if they do so.

Below that, is usually a brief explanation of the business services, and what they will do for you, followed by an introduction to the team, the latest awards that have been received, and a big Call To Action.

Followed by a footer with another brief summary of the business, what the services are, and where they can find it. (address, contact information etc.)

Every good website follows this same basic format. Sure there might be some slight variations, but the fundamentals remain the same.

The reason for this is to always keep the purpose of the site at the forefront of any visitor’s mind. From the moment you land on a site you need to know what the business does, and what the site owner wants you to do with that information.

There is no room for confusion, and potential clients have no trouble navigating the site to find the information they need.

Everything on the website needs to be geared towards its purpose, from the font to the layout to the CTAs to the color of the text (white text on a dark background is easiest to read).

And the whole site needs to be designed in the brand’s colors.

Each color helps clients understand (subconsciously) the brand messaging, and encourages them to act.

What You Need To Do Now

Just like a physical storefront, your digital storefront will often be the first thing that people notice about your business, and first impressions count for a lot.

If your website is poorly designed, cluttered, and difficult to use, then potential clients will begin to think that your services will be poorly designed, cluttered, and difficult to use.

The opposite is true as well. A beautiful, brilliantly designed website will build confidence in your brand, and increase the likelihood that you will make a sale.

Hiring us to design your website for you will ensure that your website continues to work for you in the long run. We use the latest techniques and industry best practices to give your website (and your brand) the best chances for lasting success.

SEO: What it is, and why you need it.

SEO: What It Is, And Why You Need It.

SEO image

SEO is a powerful tool that has the potential to massively increase your customer base and launch your brand far ahead of the competition while boasting one of the best ROIs in marketing.

It’s incredibly effective, and can, if done correctly, quite literally transform your business. Which makes it so surprising that not many smaller business owners know about it.

SEO can boost your brand in such a way that you are able to take on even the largest industry giants and win, yet it still remains a relatively unknown marketing practice.

What Is SEO?

A simple definition of SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, would be, the practice of convincing the AI responsible for ranking websites on a Search Engine to rank your website higher.

There are plenty of types of SEO, but the one that most SMEs need to be concerned with is something called Local SEO, which we will get to a little later.

What Does Google Have To Do With SEO?

The rules for SEO are constantly changing. Google owns about 92% of the search engine market, which means that Google sets the rules of the SEO game, and SEO agencies have to play by them in order for their efforts to be successful. (https://bit.ly/38ApUHJ)

The key thing to remember about Google is that they are user-centric. Their main goal is to make the lives of their users easier (so that they keep using the search engine). It’s this goal that drives Google to constantly update its AI to prioritize user experience over everything else.

This forces SEO agencies to continually study and adjust their SEO practices in order to keep their client’s websites ranking competitively and avoid penalties.

How Does SEO Work?

Google uses over 200 factors to determine where a website ranks, with the website that best matches those factors ranking first, and the one that matches them second best ranking second and so on.

These factors can seem incredibly small, and often arbitrary, but with Google’s total web page index estimated to be somewhere between 30-50 billion (https://bit.ly/3FsPA5L) the smallest thing can mean the difference between ranking on the first page, or the second (and think about it. When was the last time you went to the second page of Google?)

Some of these factors only make a .1% difference in where you rank, but that can add up, and the benefits of ranking high are immense.

The 5 major factors that Google considers are Content, Mobile Optimization, User Experience, Load Speed and Security.

  • Content

Content allows you to incorporate things like keywords and backlinks which signal to the AI that your content is the best answer to a user query. It also allows you to showcase your expertise and keep visitors to your website on your page for longer.

The better your expertise, authority and trustworthiness (E-A-T) are showcased in your content, the higher you will rank.

  • Mobile Optimization

Most Google searches happen on a smartphone. This has forced Google to prioritize websites that are mobile-optimized.

Make sure that your site can be easily accessed on mobile screens and that images and font are appropriately sized.

  • User Experience

How is your website designed? Do users get confused or frustrated when using it? Are the fonts in complementary, easily legible colors that do not hurt the eyes? Are your users constantly bombarded with irrelevant ads (or too many popup ads in general)?

If your website is optimized for user experience, people are likely to stay longer, which will result in a higher ranking.

  • Load Speed

Does your site load in 2 seconds or less? If not, consider compressing images, or switching to a faster web host.

  • Security

Is your website able to protect the personal information of your clients? The more secure your site is, the higher you will rank.

Why Should I Care If My Site Ranks High?

Because the first result on a SERP (search engine results page) attracts 30% of the visitors, and the first 3 attract over 60%. (https://bit.ly/38ApUHJ), and a whopping 75% of people never leave the first page.

That means that if your website isn’t on the first page of Google, then around 2/3rds of the total number of Google Users (total number of users = about 4.3 Billion) (https://bit.ly/3UXsQ3t) your site simply doesn’t exist.

But if you do rank on the first page, (and you rank in the top 3) then you can attract up to 60% of people already searching for your services.

So Yes, SEO Is Important.

Because we know that good knowledge of how search engines work is necessary to get results, we only choose team members with SEO-specific experience. Can Changing Your Mindset Really Improve Your Business’s Bottom Line?

Can Changing Your Mindset Really Improve Your Business's Bottom Line?

mindset changes

Introduction: Can Changing Your Mindset Really Improve Your Business's Bottom Line?

Most business owners start their own business based on their passion for what it is they do. Unfortunately, it takes much more than passion to build a successful business. You must have a specific vision for what it is you want your business to accomplish and the direction you want to take to produce the results you expect your business to achieve. It really all begins with your mindset.

Your Thoughts

Thought is the most powerful force in the universe. Our thoughts are the controlling factor in what we manifest and create in our lives. Use your thoughts to create a specific vision for your business ... then apply the right strategies and tactics to grow and develop that business.

What you need to know…

Creating a millionaire's mindset requires action on your part. You must create a mindset that's focused on performing your highest impact and highest income-producing activities on a daily basis.

If you're not happy with your business's current results, then ask yourself some questions and be brutally honest as you answer them. WHY are you getting such poor results? WHY are you failing to attract clients? WHY are you attracting the wrong clients? WHY are you failing to generate the revenue and profits you expect from your business?

One of the things that we have found over the years is that people who are broke, struggling or just getting by ... don't think the same way as people who are financially abundant. They don't believe the same things as financially challenged people do; therefore, they don't behave the same way. In short, they take different actions.

Why you need to know this…

Small business owners have been mentally conditioned to behave a certain way. They have specific beliefs ... such as, "in order to make more money, I have to work harder." "Money is the root of all evil." "No pain, no gain." "Money doesn't grow on trees." "If I don't do it myself, it will never get done."

These beliefs lead to specific actions such as working more hours and putting forth more effort in a vain attempt to increase revenue and profits. That leads to specific results such as feelings of overwhelm, anxiety and frustration … and a deep-seated belief that more and more effort is required, even though results seldom if ever appear.

Do you know what your current beliefs may be costing your business today? For example…

Do you succumb to mental barriers that may be sabotaging your success?

Are you laser-focused on your highest income-producing activities?

Are you hiring, assigning, delegating or bartering all of your non income-producing and less productive tasks?

Do you know the specific steps you can take to immediately create a "millionaire's mindset?"

Would you like to know how you can learn to develop the critical skills mentioned above?

Our E-Learning Marketing System™ does all of this … and much, much more. But don't take our word for it. Let us show you right now how a business owner can change the way they think about their business … and do so in such a way that it creates a dramatic increase in effectiveness and revenue.

We will find you at least $10,000 additional revenue to your business without you spending one cent on advertising! In fact, we will do this for you at no charge so you can see first hand how we can help you grow your business.

This is neither hype nor theory! You will see with your own eyes just how much revenue you are sitting on right now and it won’t cost you a dime!

Local Search Marketing – “The Big Picture”

Local Search Marketing -- The "Big Picture"

local search marketing

Introduction: Local Search Marketing ... "The Big Picture"

The title of this post comes from an article I wrote over four years ago with a focus on local search marketing.

Yes, it is true, many things have changed in the past four years. So, why am I posting an article that could be totally insignificant due to those changes?

I'd like to hear the opinion of our readers.

What do you think? Does this article contain a message that is still relevant today, or do you feel the entire article is insignificant? Please post a comment sharing your opinion.

And now...

Local Search Marketing -- The "Big Picture"

Convenience! What does that word and local search marketing have in common? Continue reading as I uncover the mystery of the "big picture" with regard to local search marketing.

Discover what you and over 90% of all businesses are missing that will either position you for greater profits, ahead of your competition; or leave you wondering what exactly did you miss.

It is safe to say that most people around the world have figured out there is something out there called the Internet. Fortunately, two familiar names, Google and Yahoo, along with other search engines, have revolutionized how we learn, how we shop, and how we discover the world.

Through the aforementioned search engines, billions of people around the world have been able to harness a good portion of the full power the internet has to offer.

You may be wondering what that has to do with your business…

Consider this: there are well over ten billion unique searches every month - just in the United States! At least 4 out of 10 of those searches are people looking for places, things, and information that is local.

Here is the indicator - Google and Yahoo have made a dramatic shift in how they return searches. The obvious trend screams local search. Google has even gone out of its way to create a web presence for local businesses. They call it Google Places.

Unfortunately, better than 90% of businesses haven't claimed their free listing for local search. The saddest part is that half of all offline businesses still do not have a website.

Hold on, this is only part of the "big picture" - the other fast growing trend to be aware of is mobile.

Don't Forget About Mobile!

What?!?

Do you know anyone that doesn't have a cell phone? Maybe this will help: The International Telecommunication Union, in October, 2010, estimated there would be 5.3 billion mobile subscriptions by the end of 2010. That's like 77 percent of the world population.

Okay, now that we are on the same page, let's dig into the emerging trend with mobile. According to an early study in 2010 by comScore, over 45.5 million people in the United States owned smartphones out of 234 million total subscribers.

Smartphones? Think iPhone, Blackberry, Android, and the list goes on. Here's the thing, more consumers are wrapping their heads around the real value of smartphones.

With mobile searches quadrupling in the last year, 79 percent of smartphone subscribers using their smartphone to help with shopping, and cell phone companies making it easier for anyone to have a smartphone…

Your customers will be trying to engage you with their smartphones; will you be there when they call?

Patience please … I'm not finished just yet…

The next part of the "big picture" should be obvious. Think Social Media … you know, Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare … ring a bell?

Imagine your business benefiting from the viral impact of Social Media.

Want to notify your customers about a one day sale you are running? You can create a commercial for television, run a display ad in the newspaper, run a ValPak promotion, or "push a button" to notify your customers on your Fanpage and Twitter…

Which do you think is faster and more targeted?

Key Takeaway

Okay, here is your takeaway:

Combining the powerful growth of local search, smartphones, and social media will create a tremendous profit explosion for those businesses that position themselves in front of this growth ... and the demise of those that don't.

What inherent need do these three trends fulfill for your present customers, potential customers, and your business?

Wait for it…

Convenience!

That my friend is the "big picture" - the only question now is, "What are you going to do about it for your online presence?"

Your Thoughts?

Remember, be sure to post a comment sharing your opinion -- Does this article contain a message that is still relevant today, or do you feel the entire article is insignificant?
